Events and stuff!
That's true for New York, at least.
So much has been going on in the past few days! It's good to be busy though. And have some fun :) Kids Comic Con went well last Saturday! I want to do a post this week comparing that con with Bronx Heroes (maybe Thurs or Fri).
Today I'll be at Carmine St. Comics for a studio day (from like 1pm to 8pm ish). Tomorrow is another big event: Carmine St. Comics Community Showcase! In the words of the shop itself:
For our artists to meet the neighborhood and the neighborhood to meet our artists.
And for YOU to meet both!
All day on Wednesday May 15th, each of our Storefront Artists will have an hourly signing slot during which they'll sketch for you as they sell their work!
And we'll be sharing info about this beautiful NYC neighborhood's history and culture over our social-networking sites from as we go along!
!! - - !!
ALSO! BONUS! Spending a certain amount at the CSC register will qualify you to take home exclusive one-time made-just-for-the-occasion
My time slot is in the morning - from 10am-11am. It should be fun! 34 Carmine St. off the West 4th stop in Manhattan!
Kids Comic Con TOMORROW!
I'll be in the KIDS COMIC CON tomorrow, May 11th! 10am-6pm. It's at Bronx Community College 181st St. & University Ave., Bronx NY 10453. FREE ADMISSION!
This year KCC's theme is: Sci-Fact to Sci-Fiction, Where Creativity and Technology Meet. Kids will be able to meet and greet over 30 artists who use different forms of science and technology to create comics, animation, video games, puppets, and more.
KCC 7 Patrolled By NEW CRUSADERS! This year, the creators of Archie Comics’ sci-fi superheroes will be there to answer questions, sketch, and share an inside peek of their creation.
Around The Corner To SESAME STREET! Come meet members of the Jim Henson/Sesame Street creative team. Learn how they work with the Muppets, and much more.
KCC creator and founder Alex Simmons, writer for Archie, Scooby-Doo, Tarzan and oh, so much more, said he’s especially excited about this year’s KIDS COMIC CON.
“Since 2007 our annual event has introduced thousands of kids and families to the power of imagination and creativity,” Simmons said. “Our road shows have traveled from Upstate New York to Miami Florida, to Senegal in Africa. This year, we’re developing programming for students and teachers in the West Indies, and we’ll be screening a documentary about comics in Guatemala.”
KCC artists will also join Ronald McDonald House NY, and others, in its fight for children, against cancer.
“KCC’s primary goal is to promote reading, creativity, and exploration in kids’ lives,” Simmons said. “Now more than ever it is imperative that young people embrace a continuous flow of positive ideas, skills, and outlets for their thinking as well as self-esteem. And this year we’ve found even more people who share these ideas and goals. So come share the day and the magic!”

Bronx Heroes Con THIS WEEKEND!
I'll be in the Bronx Heroes Comic Con this weekend May 4th and 5th! It's at the Bronx Library Center: 310 East Kingsbridge Rd. Bronx NY 10458. FREE ADMISSION!! For all ages! Sat 11AM-6PM, Sun 1PM-5PM (yay!! I get to sleep in on a convention day :D) Here's the facebook event and you can rsvp here too.
This is the second time I'm exhibiting at Bronx Heroes - it's been exactly one year since I've been exhibiting in comic conventions, art shows, and other events! What a year! I've learned so much in this time. It's been really fun, but a lot of work. But I love doing it, and will keep on truckin'.
STUFF
Yesterday was a big success for Carmine St. comics grand opening! Pics to come soon. I also realize I never recapped from Super Heroes for Hospice: that went very well too! Not many people there but I did well despite that. My lecture went well but the video didn't capture the power point presentation well, so I may not post that. But yeah life in NY is flying by! Where did April GO? I'm doing so many shows, events, and freelance gigs that I can't keep up with my blog. It's a good thing to have work though. Bronx Heroes Comic Con THIS WEEKEND May 4th and 5th!

The Big Sneeze
Super Heroes for Hospice went well this weekend! Recap on that later this week. I'll also be in the Bronx Heroes con May 4th-5th and Kids Comic Con May 11th!
This practically happened one time when I was little. I was in a theater with my mom waiting for the show to start, when we heard a big sneeze in back of us. I see something slide from under the seat in my aisle, and it was false teeth! We then turn and see 2 old ladies going up and down the aisles looking for something.
Super Heroes for Hospice Tomorrow!
I'll be in Super Heroes for Hospice tomorrow! Check out their facebook page. Excited for my talk: "Get Started: Selling your Comic Art at Conventions!" Even though I gave that talk last fall, I've had a lot more experience since then and have added new important things to the talk! There are many other cool presenters that day too, and lots of great comic to sort through. If you live in NJ or can make it out there, this will be an awesome show.
NYCBM Recap
Last week, NYCBM was MY MOST SUCCESSFUL SHOW YET! There was a great crowd and I was sketching non-stop! It was really fun talking with everyone and am glad everyone loved their sketches. I did a sketch for Rosemary Kiladitis who featured me in her blog! Here are some cool sketches I did:
I made a sign that said I colored for Power Rangers Megaforce and printed some sample pages (with permission from Papercutz), so I got some kids interested in Rangers sketches! This is the Great Gosei Megazord. All the rangers have their Zord robots that combine to form this big one (similar to how Voltron works).
One guy wanted a combination of Big Gay Al (from South Park) with Star Sapphire. ROCK ON!!
This lady wanted her face on my pomeranian character of Sir Leonardo Zeus Armageddon (page 3 of The Misfortune Cookie #1). So funny :D Kind of looks like a sphinx too. I love when people have such creative requests!
One guy had me draw a funny Deadpool scene on a special blank variant cover. I'm honored!
One girl wanted a family portrait of Batman, Robin, and Alfred. So sweet!
Also did lots of Adventure Time sketches, more Deadpool, and a cool one of Yoshi but no time to post them all! If you don't see your sketch here, but want to share it with the world, feel free to post it on my facebook page.
Thanks SO MUCH to everyone who came by my table! Great meeting everyone and I appreciate your support!
lol cats are important
Also, sent in the last color files for Power Rangers Megaforce! Pulled an all nighter Sunday night and went to sleep at 8am. It should be out in the fall. Yeah, it's a while, but time moves fast for me. Also gonna be in another comic con this Saturday: Super Heroes for Hospice! I'll give a lecture/power point presentation about Getting Started Exhibiting your Comics in Conventions at 12:30. See you there!
The Daily Misfortune 179
Everyone is talking about the Boston Marathon tragedy online and everywhere. What can I say that hasn't already been said? I do feel some need to comment on it, rather than looking like I'm ignoring it online. But why is that? I'm not going to incorporate it into the Daily Misfortune comic, because it's in no way funny. Although I did do some on Hurricane Sandy when it happened, but that was before everyone knew the real toll it took on everyone. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and I hope to bring you a bit of laughter with my comics in the midst of all the craziness. I think my friend Ross put it best:
"Despite the terrible tragedy that occurred in Boston today, it's important to be thankful that we live in a country where this is so rare and not as commonplace as in other parts of the world. We need to feel incredibly proud that our country is home to such brave first responders, firefighters, police, national guard and so many devoted to the safety of others in times like these. Acts of terror like this are so absurd, break every rule of human nature, and cannot ever be figured out. How we do our best to prevent and how we respond to these events reflects our unwillingness to give into those who break the rules and commit such horrible crimes against humanity."
Tax Man
If you're worried about filing your taxes, the Beatles may lighten your mood. I've been so busy I had to file an extension. SO EASY on TURBOTAX!!
NYCBM This Weekend!
I'm going to be at another comic convention this Saturday April 13th: NYCBM. It's at
Hotel Pennsylvania
