Free Comic Book Day THIS SATURDAY at Anyone Comics!

31880745_583908031985422_5785933822365270016_n.jpg

Did you know there's a day called Free Comic Book Day?  It's always the first Saturday in May, and you can go to ANY comic shop all over America and they will have a certain selection of comics for FREE!  No, it doesn't mean that all the comics in the store are free... they'd go out of business.  Note that the above image is meant to read May 5th, 12pm - 8pm (it is NOT May 12).

Some stores, like Anyone Comics in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, are also making it into a party/ Indie Art Fair!  I'm one of 15+ local cartoonists selling comics, zines, toys, games, prints, clothing & more from NOON to 8pm - all day!  My friend Patrick McEvoy will take over the later half of the day, selling our new comic "Other Realms," so if you want to see me, please get there before 4pm.  Even though it's supposed to rain this Saturday, all the festivities are inside.  At least it's going to be warm - almost 70°!  It's at 1216 Union Street - take the 2/5 to President Street and it's right around the corner.

Hope you can make it out to get some free comics, discover a new favorite artist, and enjoy just hanging out at a comic shop - the peeps at Anyone Comics are very friendly :)

Free Comic Book Day TOMORROW!

Did you know that it's FREE COMIC BOOK DAY tomorrow?  The first Saturday in May, this year being May 7th, is a very special event for all comic stores!  Selected comics will be available for FREE!  No, not all comics in the stores are free (the stores would go out of business).  But it's a great way to get new readers, especially kids, interested in comics!

Some stores will also have special guests.  Carmine Street Comics will have many comic creators exhibiting on an hourly rotating basis.  I'll be there from 2pm - 3pm selling my comics and doing sketches.  Since I've gotten my new teaching job, I am not at Carmine on Tuesdays anymore, but it will be great to be back in the mini artist's studio!  Carmine Street Comics is 34 Carmine Street in the village near the West 4th stop.  See you there!

Free Comic Book Day THIS SATURDAY!

So far Mindy Indy's trip to the Windy City has been great!  C2E2 went pretty well - I've been drawing lots of dogs as super heroes lately.  I also had a signing yesterday at the Graham Crackers Comic store in the Loop, which also went well!  Been seeing some friends and family while freelancing in between all these events.  I'll also do a signing/drawings at another Graham Crackers Comic location (it's a chain) for Free Comic Book Day (FCBD)!

What IS FCBD?  It's where you can go to any comic store in America and get a selection of comics for free.  NO, not every comic in the store is free.  It's a promotional thing.  And it's fun!  Always happens the first Saturday in May, which is May 2nd this year.  If you're in the Chicago area, I'll have CRAZY discounts on my custom drawings!  Here's where I'll be:

Graham Crackers Comics, 5443 N Broadway, Chicago IL 60640.  From 11A-4P.

I found out the other day that it's illegal for Chicago to have a "happy hour."  WHAAAAAAAA?  Apparently bars can have some discounts on appetizers, but not drinks, and they can't call it "happy hour."  That's a sad hour in my opinion.

In NYC I get asked to happy hours sometimes but usually decline because I'm working on freelance stuff and it kind of interrupts my groove... If I had an office job and was already downtown sure I might go, but it doesn't usually work as well for my schedule.  After my signing Wednesday I caught up with a friend from art school around like 4pm and we found out this crazy fact.

Rocket Girl Poster!

Rocket Girl Poster!

Free Comic Book Day last Saturday was pretty fun - I was at Carmine St. Comics for an hour but it was jam packed!  They'd already run out of the freebies well before 4pm.  I sold a few mini comics, but it was great to meet new people and see friends.  I got to talk with Amy Reeder and Brandon Montclare and got Rocket Girl #2 with this awesome poster of the cover!  Totally 80s!  Reading the comic now - just as cool as #1.

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY SATURDAY 5/3!

Free Comic Book Day is the first Saturday in May each year, which this year is tomorrow May 3rd.  Comic stores nation-wide have a selection of comics to give away for free as a special happy promotional thing.  Another cool thing is that there are many book signings where you can meet creators!

I'll be doing a signing at Carmine Street Comics from 4-5PM!  There's a long list of awesome creators signing each hour of the day there!  I'm super honored and excited to share a time slot with Brandon Montclare and Amy Reeder, creators of Rocket Girl!  They are super amazing, talented, and friendly!  Here's the facebook invite.  Tell your friends!  I'll be sketching and selling my mini comics as usual, and the store is promoting me as colorist of Deadpool Max, so if you have any of the DP Max comics Kyle Baker worked on, bring them in and I can sign them :)

Carmine Street Comics is on 34 Carmine St. in the village.  Take the ACE, BDFM to the West 4th street stop or the 1 train to Christopher St.

Super excited and hope to see you there!  Even if you don't come to see me, come see Amy Reeder!
