Pete's Mini Zine Fest This Saturday!!

Tomorrow I'm exhibiting in Pete's Mini Zine Fest!  A celebration of little works of joy:  zines!  Though zines (short for magazines, of the indie kind) traditionally consist of written works, cartoonists are gradually taking over zine fests :)

Saturday 7/30 from 2-7pm at Pete's Candy Store (the "store" is actually a bar... there is no candy, but it used to be a candy store) 709 Lorimer Sr, Brooklyn NY 11211.  Take the L to Lorimer or G to Metropolitan Ave.  Here's the facebook invite.  See you there!

Last week I got to experience and exhibit at Comic-Con International in San Diego!! (more on that in the next blog) and I realized I need to prepare for Boston Comic Con in 2 weeks.  Do I even still live in New York?

Pete's Mini Zine Fest this weekend!

Wow it's been awhile since I last posted, but I've had a lot going on.  Moved back to Brooklyn (WOOT WOOT!) and am finally almost settled in.  And a bunch of other commotion has passed.  Now, onto Pete's Mini Zine Fest!  I'm tabling there again with 25 other zinesters.  In Williamsburg at Pete's Candy Store (it's a bar, not an actual candy store.  Although it probably used to be).  Saturday July 25th from 2-7p!  Free admission!  Booze!  (the booze is not free though - it's a bar).  708 Lorimer St in Brooklyn.  Take the L or G to Lorimer.

This year, PMZF is part of NYC Zine Weekend, which is part of International Zine Month!  Other zine goings on:

Friday July 24, 8pm
Summer Zinester Potluck at ABC No Rio.
Free, but bring food to share and zines to trade. 156 Rivington St., Lower East Side
zine@abcnorio.org

Sunday July 26, 2-5pm
Zinester discussion & skillshare at Bluestockings. Free, donation solicited
172 Allen St., Lower East Side
NYCzinegroup@gmail.com

This was the aforementioned "other commotion."  It's not right that artists keep encountering situations of working their asses off for something that has only a slight chance of happening.  Sometimes, as in this case, the company will build you up and make you feel like you pretty much already have the job.  It's like a big juicy steak (or tofu burger if you're vegetarian) is being dangled in front of you, and then it's SNATCHED away.

Special Interview!

I love little surprises like this!  The awesome people at Bookshelf Podcast interviewed me at Special Edition NYC, and now it's online!  Gabriel Lemaine asked me about conventions I've exhibited at, my work on Power Rangers, custom comics, and Pete's Mini Zine Fest - just in time for this weekend!

Don't forget to come to the kickoff reading tonight 7/25 at Pete's Candy Store, 709 Lorimer St. in Brooklyn, from 7-9pm!  It should be pretty chill I imagine, so grab a drink, relax, and enjoy great reading performances!

Pete's Mini Zine Fest THIS WEEKEND!

Flyer designed by Mindy Indy :)

Flyer designed by Mindy Indy :)

So much has been going on!  Last time I blogged it was before the Comics and Medicine Conference, which went really well!  I didn't mess up on my presentation!  Since then I've been finishing the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers coloring, which I thankfully got done in time for the deadline.  Oh and my friends had a wedding that displayed 2 custom comics I made for them!  Pics to come.  In the meantime:

I'm in Pete's Mini Zine Fest this Saturday July 26th!  In my 'hood of Williamsburg at Pete's Candy Store (it's a bar that used to be a candy store) 709 Lorimer St. in Brooklyn, from 2-7pm.  There's also a kickoff reading event the night before that should be fun too.  If you liked the Brooklyn Zine Fest, you'll find Pete's Zine Fest to be similar, but cozier and with booze :P

Oh, Daily Misfortune, I have missed ye!  Freelancing has been hard.  It's great when I have a huge project like the Rangers, but even though I paced myself (literally coloring on the plane... on the bus...) crunch time meant staying up til dawn for a week and doing nothing else but Photoshop.  But hey, it worked!  So now comes the search for the next project... there's always a celebration upon completing a project, but then it's like "now what?"  After the Zine Fest though I have Boston Comic Con lined up for early August.  On top of that, I have to move because my place is getting too expensive.
