Signing Success! On to Baltimore!

Michael Petranek and Mindy Indy at Carmine Street Comics Last night the Power Rangers signing was awesome!  Thanks to everyone who came!  Sold some books, did some drawings, and talked with a lot of nice people!  Special thanks to Michael for bringing all the books!  It was super great catching up with him too!  Special thanks to my friend Carlos Abdu for bringing everyone pizza!

Mindy Indy and Michael Petranek at Carmine St. Comics!

It felt so fulfilling to be a part of such a cool book and in this event!  Sometimes, because it takes so much work and time to plan events, and to prepare for things like comic conventions, I wonder if it's all worth it, but it's for amazing experiences like this that make me know that comics are what I'm meant to do with my life!

Now onto the next thing!  Right now I'm on the Bolt Bus to Baltimore with my friends Ellen Stedfeld and Carlos Abdu for the Baltimore Comic Con!  OMG it was crazy coordinating and some of us almost missed the bus :P  Everyone was printing last minute stuff, and I just printed my new story, "The Lucky Penny" today!  Can't wait to show it to everyone!  I'll post it on here soon too.

We'll be in Artist's Alley at Table A286!  Super excited!

Power Rangers Signing TONIGHT!

Tonight Mindy Indy will sketch your favorite Ranger, or you can get a sketch of you AS a Power Ranger, like this sketch!  OR, you can even get a sketch combining characters, like this one of Dead Pool dressing as the Red Ranger:

Dead Pool as the Red Ranger

Please stop by Carmine St. Comics tonight from 7PM to 9PM to get a copy of the newest Power Rangers Megaforce book, signed by colorist Mindy Indy and editor Michael Petranek.  I'm sorry that some people can't make it because of Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year).  We picked this day because that's when the store and people who worked on the book were available.  But now I know, and will definitely keep Rosh Hashanah in mind in planning future events (mental note:  beginning of September...)  In any case, Shanah Tovah!

Hope to see many people at Carmine tonight - it'll be fun! :)

More Power Rangers Stuff

Power Rangers Megaforce Volume 3 Here's what the cover looks like for the new Power Rangers book!  If you haven't gotten your copy already, you can get it at Carmine St. Comics this Thursday!  It's my first official signing event so I'm really happy :)  Yeah I'm posting more about this event than about the next convention coming up:  Baltimore Comic Con this weekend!  Life is happening so fast!

Power Rangers Sketches

Green Ranger Mindy Indy

On my Power Rangers Book Signing this Thursday, you can get awesome Rangers sketches like this one!  It could be any Ranger, not just from Megaforce.  You can get them in pencil, ink, or color.  I make them small (4x6) or large (9x12).  For this Green Ranger sketch, I added a special touch of gold paint marker to create a metallic shine.  If you've ever wanted a Power Rangers sketch, this is a great opportunity to get one from someone who worked on the series!  Come to Carmine St. Comics (34 Carmine St. in Manhattan) Sept. 5th from 7pm to 9pm.  So excited!  Hope to see you there!

Apparently this happened to a friend of a friend eating a fish taco at the beach.  The seagull picked up the fish part, and actually left the taco shell in the guy's hands.  It was like "I'm eating THIS part."

It kind of reminded me of how in kid's cereal commercials, a character, usually an animal, is always trying to steal the cereal.  The Trix Rabbit, Lucky in Lucky Charms, the Dog bandit in Cookie Crisp (although in the late '90s, they took the robber aspect of it away and made the dog good.  I always thought that was odd.  I guess they didn't want to send the wrong message).  But what's so wrong with giving the rabbit Trix?  Just let the poor thing eat them!  Silly kids.

Happy Labor Day!

Thanks Guys, Brontis Shane Orengo, Mindy Indy

Happy Labor Day!  Hopefully construction workers have the day off, as I noticed the L train is running normally today.  I'm happy to present the new monthly/bi-monthly comic I'm working on with Brontis Shane Orengo!  Enjoy!

Labor Day

Last year, when I was working at Utrecht Art Supplies, I had to work on holidays like Labor Day and Memorial Day and not even get time and a half pay.  Glad that I technically have the day off this year, but I'm still being productive on comic stuff.  In other news, Utrecht just got bought by Blick!  Karma comes back around.

Power Rangers Megaforce BOOK SIGNING!

Power Rangers Megaforce Book Signing

SUPER EXCITED to announce I'll be in a book signing this Thursday Sept. 5th!  Power Rangers Megaforce Vol. 3 is now on store shelves everywhere, and I'll be at Carmine St. Comics with Papercutz editor Michael Petranek to sign books and talk with people about what it's like to work on the Rangers series!  I'll also be doing Power Rangers drawings for fans!  We'll be there from 7PM-9PM.  Here's the facebook event.  GET PUMPED THIS IS AWESOME!!!

Haha I just realized this Daily Misfortune doesn't go at all with the Rangers posting.  The people at Papercutz are super awesome and it's been great working with them :)  I tried to think of a Rangers misfortune, but I just go with whatever inspires me at the time.

Baltimore Comic Con NEXT WEEKEND!

Baltimore Comic Con 2013 I'm excited to announce that I'll be at this year's Baltimore Comic Con!  It's next weekend, Sept. 7th - 8th.  Saturday hours are 10A-7P, Sunday hours are 10A-5P.  It's at the Baltimore Convention Center at

One West Pratt Street Baltimore, Maryland 21201 (SHARP STREET ENTRANCE)

You can get tickets here.  $25 for Saturday, $20 for Sunday, $40 for a weekend pass.

I hope to see some fans I met last year!  This year I'll have my new story out in time (it's allllllmost done!  I'm too much of a perfectionist about Photoshop...) so you can look forward to that :)

I'll be sharing Table A286 with Carlos Abdu and Ellen Stedfeld.  We're doing something very unique and fun for this convention - we'll have a special deal on custom drawings:  Get one piece of finished artwork by all 3 artists for $30!  One of us draws, another inks, and the other artist colors it.  It's like how comics are created in the traditional way with a team of people.  It should be a fun time and a one-of-a-kind experience!

Hope to see you there!

My room mate Kaitlin has become the star of The Daily Misfortune lately.  Just lift the glass out of the base - don't turn :)

The Daily Misfortune 262

Ugh I'm not even gonna go into the story behind THIS misfortune.

Meanwhile, this time I'm finding it harder to remove the spam link that appears in the emails (for people on my mailing list).  Once again, please ignore the link that appears right below the Daily Misfortune picture - it's spam.  I googled it the same way I did last time, but can't find the solution for some reason.  So hold tight, I'll get rid of it somehow.  Anyone have suggestions or is knowledgeable about Feedburner/Wordpress?

Sophie Ellis-Bextor

This always happens to me.  I hate that NYC clubs only usually play hits and not ACTUAL awesome dancing music.  I listen to a lot of internet radio and find music that way, and like a lot of random songs that I guess aren't popular in the US.

I'm here at Carmine St. Comics doing comic stuff all day!  Coloring, lettering, sketching, drawing.  Lots of projects to work on.  It's a beautiful day out - take a walk over the the Village and say "HI!"

The Daily Misfortune 260

This happened last Saturday to one of my roomies and me!  If I hear honking on a street in Brooklyn, everything's so noisy here in NYC that I assume it's part of traffic craziness, not directed towards me :P  I felt bad when I found out it was her later, and she got a flat tire in the process :/  But she got it fixed at the nearby gas station.

Robot Rock

I'll always love Daft Punk!  Their new release (Random Access Memories) is good, but by far their best album was Discovery in 2001.  My absolute favorite not only because of the danceable music, but they animated the entire album!  Interstella 5555.  It's the main inspiration for the Aer Head graphic novel I'm slowlllllyyyy working on.

Grove Alley Game Nite

Grove Alley Game Nite Grove Alley is at it again THIS FRIDAY Aug 23, 6-11p!  Come hang out for a vintage inspired game night.  You'll experience huge wall projections for nintendo and x-box, plus board games, hands on games, and tons of vintage seating. Get your drink on with some lovely Brooklyn Brewery while listening to DJ ROCCO FERRER and eat from delicious food trucks.

I'm not exhibiting, as there aren't any vendors this time, but I'm definitely gonna check it out!  I designed this flyer and love to support events I'm involved in.  Oh it's FREE too!

Grove Alley is in Brooklyn off Hanover Place between Livingston and Fulton Streets.

Grove Alley Map

Here's a helpful map!  Grove Alley is right near Long Island University and is conveniently close to the BQR at Dekalb Ave, 2/3/4/5 at Nevins St., and the ACG at Hoyt-Schermerhorn.  Hope to see you there this Friday!

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

The Daily Misfortune 257

It's really hard to find bottle deposits in NYC.  It's not like there are Kroger's or Meijer's around (I wish there were!).  Luckily, the C-Town just remodeled and I can take them there.  Except there's only one deposit station - not like 5.  Let's hope I don't get stuck behind a homeless person with a shopping cart full of bottles.

To all the people on my mailing list:  that weird spam link is back so don't click on it!  It'll say something weird right under the first picture I post.  Gotta fix it again.  Stupid spammers.

Anyway I'm here all day at Carmine St. Comics!  Happy to announce I've just started another NEW monthly to bi-monthly comic, which I'll post once it's done :)  Tuesdays are always chill here at the store, and it's a great day to get a lot of work done for me.  Stop by if you want to say hi!

Pearls Before Swine

Pearls Before Swine Fortune Cookie My mom sent me this strip - LOVE Pearls Before Swine!

The saying of placing pearls before swine (which actually comes from the Bible - just looked it up) inspired today's Daily Misfortune:

One Step at a Time

No Tears: Life With FD This is the latest Familial Dysautonomia comic - No Tears:  Life With FD.  I took part in writing this one!  I was inspired by a book I got on FD day by Alexia De Gunzberg called Steps of Life:  Exceeding Boundaries.  In the book, Alexia describes in vivid detail the difficulties of having a disability and her journey to overcoming them.  The first part of the book involves getting the courage to cross the street by herself for the first time.  Think about it - many of us cross the street without thinking, but it's a big deal when you have a walker, don't move as fast, and may endanger yourself if you fall.  Alexia is very strong willed and inspiring, and I hope you get the chance to read this great book!

Meanwhile, it's gotten to that point.  Hmm should've put this Daily Misfortune with the Power Rangers blog last week where they actually DO fight a trash monster :)

The Daily Misfortune 251

Turns out yesterday's Art-Con was a bust.  I was sick with a cold and busted my ass to get there too.  I had a bad time with the bus last time I went to the Whiskey Cafe and was late to Sketch Con last time, so I thought I could avoid buses by taking the subway to Times Square and then taking a cab - it's not that far into NJ.  But that morning 2 cabbies told me it was like $70!!  $13 for the toll, plus $50 for a fee from crossing state lines or something, plus the regular time rate.  So I ended up taking the bus after all.  The 10:30AM NJ Transit bus didn't even come.  Another one came 20 minutes later, and dropped me off in a different location than I remembered.  I dragged my suitcase to a nearby 7/11 and they gave me a number for a car service.  I was too exhausted to drag my stuff even a few blocks, but it was a good thing I got the car, because there weren't any sidewalks.  However, that 3 minute ride cost $10!  Stupid.

I was an hour late, but it didn't matter because there were no customers in sight.  There were about 9 vendors, and the whole time we just went to each others tables.  Most of the time I wish I had stayed in bed and rested to get over my cold.  But I ended up meeting great people which was cool - who knows where some connections could lead.

In any case, Art-Con wins worst convention I've exhibited at due to lack of foot traffic and lowest sales.  However, the table was only $30, so it's not like I lost $100 like at the Bronx Heroes Con.  I had expected Art-Con to be as great as Sketch Con was in February.  It was at the same location so that wasn't an issue, but I think the main difference was lack of good advertising and promotion.  But you win some, you lose some.  I did so well at Boston Comic Con last weekend that I'm still pumped from that.

Art-Con THIS SUNDAY!

Never a dull moment for mindy indy - I'm at it again this Sunday for a special artist convention in NJ:  "Art-Con."  50+ artists from the area will be showcasing their talents! Authors, painters, photographers, independent businesses owners, and more! Whiskey Cafe will also be open for business as usual! Come support our local artists! Art-Con is an opportunity for those in the creative and arts industry to display their work amongst like-minded individuals who are looking to show off their talents. Artists will be given their own tables to display, sell, and create their work for an audience of collectors and art enthusiasts. You show what you want to show, sell what you want to sell, and network with the people around you. Art-Con is meant to bring art of all kinds under one roof.

Whiskey Cafe is at 1050 Wall Street, Lyndhurst, New Jersey 07071

See you there!
